Not far from the group camp is the Robert Ferguson Observatory, which has one of the largest telescopes dedicated for public viewing. This observatory is open to the public only during scheduled events.

If you're a space buff, head out on the Planet Walk. They actually have a model of the Solar System made to scale at Sugarloaf Ridge State Park. Hike from the Sun to Pluto and back. This model has been created to scale so you can appreciate the distances between the planets. It's a 4.5 mile journey!
There are a variety of easy to moderate hikes perfect for beginners or families. These range from 1 to 2 miles in length. Hike or horseback ride along the Sonoma Creek. If you like a challenge or are more experienced, there are also a number of moderate to strenuous hikes ranging from 4.1 to 7.5 miles long.
You can even take a short hike to see a 25 foot seasonal waterfall or to the top of Bald Mountain (2,729 feet elevation) for a panoramic view of the area. Pick up trail maps at the Visitors Center where you can also access the free WiFi.
Leashed dogs are allowed in the park, but not on the hiking trails. Wild animals who make this park their home include deer, gray fox, bobcats, and coyotes.
