Experience an African safari in the heart of the Wine Country. Safari West Santa Rosa is an adventure you'll never forget. Over 800 animals call this 400 acre wildlife preserve home ands you can be their guest.
An African Safari tour will take you on a 3 hour tour of the park by jeep. This tour also includes a walking tour through an aviary and pass enclosures of monkeys, foxes, lemurs, cheetahs, and others. The jeep tour lasts approximately 2 and a half hours. You'll drive right into the large enclosures where the animals live.
Our guide was wonderful. She knew so much about the animals and shared the information in an informative, but fun way. She was enthusiastic. You could tell she loved the animals and her job. Most guests wanted to sit up front on top of the jeep so the guide rotated us so that all got a turn.
Keep your eyes open for rhinoceros, wildebeest, zebra, warthogs, waterbucks, giraffe, ellipsis, watusi cattle, roan, sable, oryx, impala, impalas, kudu, gazelle, gemsbok, buffalo, eland, bongo, and more.
The guide has plenty of interesting facts to share about the animals. You really do get up close to many of the animals. The giraffes were less than an arm's length away. The guide was quick to answer all your questions.
Rather than drive 15 minutes back into town, we signed up for the Safari Ranch dinner. It was served buffet style ands was quite good. We sat outdoors at communal tables where we had a fabulous time talking to fellow guests. They had an impressive wine and beer list.
Safari West has a number of luxury safari tents that give you the opportunity to spend the night. It's an experience that you must do at least once. The tent cabins are well appointed with full bathrooms, comfortable beds, room heaters, and electric blankets.
We sipped a glass of wine on the outdoor deck while enjoying the view of the grounds. Continental breakfast is included.
Safari West Santa Rosa really is amazing fun. The place is well run, a quality establishment, and they're doing a great service with their educational and conservation efforts.
We highly recommend a visit soon. Children must be at least three years old. Pregnant women might not enjoy the long, bumpy jeep ride. Be sure to bring a hat, sunglasses, comfortable walking shoes.
