Morro Bay State Park

Morro Bay State Park

Located in San Luis Obispo County, Morro Bay State Park is a unique park located on the shore of Morro Bay, which is both a state and national estuary. A saltwater marsh sits on the northeast edge of the bay and is home to a large number of birds.

There's so many ways to ways to have fun at this state park. Visitors can enjoy camping, hiking, golfing, kayaking, picnicing, and birdwatching.

Morro Bay Golf Course

This is the only state park I know of that has its own 18 hole golf course. Morro Bay State Golf Course is open to the public. Reservations can be made by calling (805) 782-8060.

The course offers a hilly terrain and stunning views on clear days. It's a traditional course complete with pro shop, driving range, rental clubs, and a bar and grill.

Morro Bay Kayak

There's even a marina across from the campground where you can moor your boat, rent a kayak, or sign up for a guided kayak adventure. Rates are quite reasonable.

Be sure to visit the Natural History Museum which provides nature walks, exhibits, lectures, puppet shows, videos, and other special events for visitors of all ages.

Bayside Cafe

Campers at this state park are spoiled. All they have to do is walk across the road to enjoy a meal at the Bayside Cafe. This casual cafe, next to the marina, offers a variety of food choices and the food is GOOD!

My favorites are the clam chowder and the amazing Mud Pie for dessert. The restaurant is open to the public for lunch or dinner.

Black Hill Trail

A series of nine peaks between San Luis Obispo and Morro Bay originated as volcanoes beneath the sea that covered this area fifteen million years ago. Morro Rock is the most famous of these peaks.

You can't hike to Morro Rock, but the you can hike the trail to Black Hill, another of these peaks. The Black Hill Trail begins in the campground for this three mile roundtrip hike.
