Great Napa Restaurant
Bistro Don Giovanni
It's not easy to choose a Napa restaurant. There are so many world class dining establishments in Napa Valley. We have eaten at a number of them, but Bistro Don Giovanni is our favorite Napa restaurant.
It's a great place for lunch or dinner during a California wine tour. Located on the corner of Highway 29 and Howard Lane on the north side of the town of Napa, this restaurant was opened in 1993 by Donna and Giovanni Scala.
Bistro Don Giovanni is a local’s favorite. We first learned about it while in a wine tasting room about five years ago. The wine server so highly recommended it that we canceled reservations we had previously made for another well known Napa restaurant and went to Bistro Don Giovanni instead.
Since then, we have been back many times. The food is wonderful and we enjoy the casual Tuscan ambiance. You can dine indoors or outside on terraces overlooking the spectacular mountain and vineyard scenery. Our favorite place to dine at Bistro Don Giovanni is on the patio near the wood-burning fireplace, which has a warm, rustic feel.
This restaurant features Italian and Country French cuisine. We have never eaten anything that was not excellent. The soups are especially good and sometimes we stop by for a lunch of soup and bread.
On our last visit Steve ordered the Pan Roasted Chicken served with mashed potatoes with Brandy-Peppercorn Sauce. It was bursting with flavors and the chicken melted in your mouth. I enjoyed the Grilled Double Cut Pork Chop served with Tuscan White Beans and Rapini Frutta di Mostarda. The sweet frutta was the perfect compliment to the hearty flavors of the pork chop.
Steve’s favorite dessert at Bistro Don Giovanni is the Bostini Triffle, which is served in a large glass with layers of vanilla custard, chocolate cake, whipped cream, caramel, and toasted almonds. It’s easily large enough to share. This Napa restaurant has the best crème brullee, which comes with fresh raspberries, blueberries, and a cookie.
Bistro Don Giovanni has a full bar and an extensive wine list. It’s always best to make reservations on the weekends. If you haven’t been to this great restaurant, plan a visit during your next California wine tour to Napa Valley. We can’t wait to go back again!
