When our two daughters were younger, we often vacationed along California's Central Coast. We loved the uncrowded beaches, the ocean scenery, and the many fun things we found to do in this area. It really wasn't until they were both off to college that we really discovered the California Central Coast wineries.
We were surprised at the number of California wineries and top quality wines available. From walks on the beach, coastal amusement parks, boogie boarding, 4-wheeling on the dunes........the Central Coast of California has so much to offer. Be sure to include wine tasting as a "must do" activity!
The Central Coast wine region stretches from Santa Barbara in the south to San Francisco in the north. Fifteen percent of California’s winegrapes come from this area. There are many California wineries producing wine here. After a day of wine tasting, we enjoyed watching the sunset at Avila Beach. The first grapes were planted by the Catholic priests during the days of the California Missions. It has become one of the major wine producing areas of California and is well known for its world class wines. This is a diverse region.
