Plan a Wine Tasting Trip to the Livermore Wine Country

It's time to plan your own wine tasting tour of the wonderful Livermore Wineries. The Livermore Valley is one of the oldest wine regions in California. The first commercial grapes were planted in the 1840s by Robert Livermore.

Livermore Valley Wine Country is located in San Francisco’s East Bay Area approximately 30 miles east of San Francisco. It includes wineries in Livermore, Pleasanton, Sunol, and Castro Valley.

If you have not experienced wine tasting in Livermore Valley, their 30 wineries are sure to delight you with the quality and variety of their wines. This area has a delightful mixture of large and small wineries waiting for you to explore. Many are only open on weekends, but will make appointments for tasting during the week.

We live just a short 35 minute drive from the Livermore Wine Country. We enjoyed wine tasting for many years before we discovered how many wonderful wineries there are in Livermore that produce top quality wines. Now we go back again and again to enjoy the world class wines, beautiful scenery, and friendly people.

In addition to wine tasting, the Livermore Valley also offers great restaurants, challenging golf courses, unique accommodations, hiking, and shopping.

Bodegas Aguirre Winery is a family owned Livermore winery that was established in 1995. The family produce estate grown premium red wines.

Chouinard Vineyards has a wide variety of wines to sample in a beautiful wooded setting. Throughout the summer Chouinard conducts a series of live concerts on most Sundays from 4:30 - 8:30 PM. It's lots of fun and a bargain at only $35 a carload.

Concannon Vineyard was established in 1883. There are picnic facilities outside the wine tasting room. Our favorite wine here is their acclaimed, Petite Sirah.

The Cafe at Garre Vineyard and Winery has fabulous food. We recommend this charming winery restaurant as a great place to enjoy a meal while wine tasting in the area. Wines are produced almost exclusively from grapes grown on their own 20 acres of vineyards. Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, Merlot, Malbec, and Petite Verdot are all grown and blended to produce the various wines at this Livermore winery.

This is a small family owned Livermore winery where it is worth making an appointment for wine tasting. The owner, Rhonda Wood, welcomed us and another couple into the winery for a private tasting. The wine was great and the conversation fun.
