Sunol Train Rides

Enjoy a scenic train ride on the Sunol train. Located near wineries in Sunol, Castro Valley, and Livermore this train trip is a fun way to spend an hour on a Sunday afternoon.

The depot was first built in the 1880s for the Southern Pacific Railroad. It was reopened in 2001 and is run entirely by volunteers as a nonprofit charitable organization.

Sunol Train Rides The Niles Canyon Railway conducts train rides on Sundays only between Sunol and Fremont. If you are wine tasting at the wineries in Sunol, Castro Valley, or Livermore, this train excursion would be something to do as well.

Elliston Vineyards Elliston Vineyards is a few miles down the road, also on Kilkare Road. Elliston is set among oak trees, lush grounds, and Chardonnay vineyards. The wine tasting room and banquet facilities are located in an historic stone mansion.

Don't miss Westover and Chouinard Vineyards. These two wineries are located next door to each other on Palomares Road. They enjoy a gorgeous wooded setting in the Palomares Canyon. Both have a variety of great wines for you to sample.

Train fares run $10 for adults, $8 for seniors, and $5 for children. Seats are first come, first served. You can select from open cars, covered cars, and enclosed coaches. Check the website below for the departure schedule for the Sunol train as it does change from time to time.
