This is the best place to stop for a picnic on the east side of Hwy. 46. It is nicely landscaped with picnic tables beneath giant trees. Rolling hills covered with vineyards surround the wine tasting room. If you want to plan a lunch stop here, you can order a gourmet lunch by calling 48 hours in advance. In the tasting room you taste limited release wines…not the wines released nationally.

Their Esprit Blanc has been recognized for its quality. The 2003 Esprit was listed in the top 100 wines of 2005 by Wine Enthusiast and the 2002 Esprit made it on the San Francisco Chronicle’s Top 100 list. Their quality wines come from estate grapes that are organically grown.

The wine tasting room has a huge floor to ceiling bar that is more than 140 years old. They say that Jesse James drank at this bar at its original location in Missouri. Whenever we stop here, we always end up bringing home a bottle of their luscious Late Harvest Zinfandel named “Liquid Love”. Other great wines include Chardonnay, Merlot, Zinfandel, Syrah, and a dessert wine called “Charisma”.

Turley is known for its high quality Zinfandel. They also produce Petite Syrah and a Rhone Blend. You may purchase their wines at the wine tasting room or through their wine club. However, there is a waiting list to join their wine club. The wait is reported to about 2 years long. The Zinfandels really are superb wines. Our favorite was the Pesenti Vineyard Paso Robles Zinfandel.
