It's been a long time since grapes have been crushed by foot. Today they are carefully crushed using the latest technology. Regulations prohibit any juice from the old fashioned grape stomps from being used to produce wine.
You'll find grape stomps are still popular during the harvest season, from August through October in California. Get ready to squish some Zinfandel between your toes! California Grape StompsGrape Stomp 2010 - Orfila Vineyards & Winery August 28, 2010 Orfila Vineyards in Escondido hosts this annual event, which is usually sold out in advance. The event includes stomping grapes in a huge 5 foot barrel, buffet dinner, live music, hay rides, wine tasting, and winery tours.
Julian Grape Stomp Festa - September 4, 2010 Julian has a grape stomp every September as a fund raiser for the local Chamber of Commerce. The event takes place from 11 AM until 7 PM at Menghini Winery. The cost is $10 for adults and $5 for children. Other fun includes music, dancing, wine tasting, arts and crafts, and a Jumbo Jump for the kids.
Peju Winery Harvest Party & Grape Stomp - Peju Winery Napa Valley - September 25, 2010 Enter the competition to see who can stomp the most grapes. Grape stomp is from noon until 2 PM. Then relax and enjoy an elegant dinner followed by dancing.
Annual Harvest Festival & Grape Stomp - September 26, 2010 Jump in and get your feet stomping. This event takes place at Mount Palomar Winery in Temecula from 11 AM - 4 PM. Reservations are required to participate.
Calaveras Grape Stomp - October 2, 2010 This popular grape stomp takes place in the Gold Rush town of Murphys from 9:30 AM until 5 PM. Enjoy squishing grapes, art, food, street fair, auction, and wine.
World Championship Grape Stomp - Santa Rosa - October 2 and 3, 2010 Winners from stomps around the country and the world travel to the Sonoma County Harvest Fair to compete for the World Championship Title. 2 person teams work together to produce the most juice. Other events at the Harvest Fair include wine tasting, art show, agricultural demos, and a carnival.
