Taste RestaurantThe opening of Taste Restaurant was eagerly anticipated by both locals and visitors to Amador County. Owners Tracy and Mark Berkner are the former owners of St. George Hotel in Volcano and they have a reputation for quality, friendly service. The restaurant uses fresh seasonal ingredients, which means that the menu changes often. Menu choices include both large and small plates and exquisite desserts for those with a sweet tooth. We ordered a variety of appetizers, entrees and desserts among the ten of us. I'd recommend the mushroom cigars, a tasty appetizer of shitake mushrooms and goat cheese wrapped in phyllo dough. The arugula salad was crispy and a nice started served with pears and candied walnuts. There were excellent reports about the grilled rack of lamb, roasted guinea hen, and kurobuta pork served with heirloom beans. I enjoyed the filet mignon served with pear chips, which was delicious. I sampled the Boston Creme pie and the warm ginger cake. Both were great but our group is full of chocolate lovers and our overwhelming favorite was the dessert called Chocolate Chocolate Chocolate. This is a trio of chocolate delights that includes pot of chocolate creme, chocolate decadence cake, and chocolate gelato. My favorite of the three was the pot of chocolate creme, which had a creamy texture and rich chocolate flavor. 
This restaurant has a full service bar as well as an extensive wine list. The wine list features many of the local Amador wines, but also includes wines from other areas.Taste Restaurant offers fine dining in the Sierra foothills; proving that you can combine the rural delights of Amador County with world class dining! Taste Restaurant is located in Plymouth, the heart of the Amador Wine Country. Be sure to visit some of the world class wineries in this area. This beautiful area is one of our favorite wine regions of California. Our wine group toured Amador wineries during the day and ended our day with a wonderful dinner at Taste. We recently ate at Taste with four other couples who belong in a wine tasting group. These couples are good friends. . .we've been in this wine tasting group for 28 years; meeting monthly to socialize and taste wine.
