Romantic Dining at Tra Vigne

Tra Vigne has been a dining choice in the Napa Valley for a long time. Under the direction of the new executive chef, Francesco Torre, Tra Vigne offers superb dining at its lovely St. Helena location. There are actually three different dining experiences available at here. In addition to the main dining, there is a pizzeria serving pizza baked in homemade brick ovens, pasta, and salads. There’s no corkage fee for bring your own bottle of wine to the pizzeria. The Cantinetta is a great place to dine on deli foods and enjoy some of the more than 50 wines available by the glass. As you enter the courtyard at Tra Vigne, it’s like stepping into Tuscany. The ivy covered walls, many plants, and festive lights draped through the olive trees create a beautiful Italian styled ambiance. We chose to dine outdoors on the patio. It’s a serene, romantic atmosphere. They also have a grand dining room with a beautiful hand carved bar, high ceilings, and elegant simple décor.

We started our meal with Fritti Stagionali ($9.95) which consisted of crispy fried scallops, calamari, prawns, mushrooms, and fennel with basil aioli and a huge plate of assorted breaks with olive oil for dipping. It was delicious.

Our salad was Heirloom Tomato Contorni ($9.95), which we also shared. We enjoyed the nice assortment of heirloom tomato slices sandwiched between slices of goat cheese and drizzled with olive oil and spices. The tomatoes were ripe and full of flavor. Steve chose a Beef Shank ($22.50) served on mashed potatoes for his entree. The beef was tender and tasty. The mashed potatoes were rich and creamy. I selected the Maltagliatti con Battuto Alla Toscano, which our server said was their most requested pasta dish. This was thin ribbons of pasta mixed with tuscan meat and fresh rosemary. The meat was shredded pieces of tender beef that went well with the pasta.

Our waiter was knowledgable about the menu and guided us as we ordered. The other servers were attentive and quick to replenish our drinks and remove dishes from the table. Tra Vigne is a Napa restaurant that we highly recommend. We will return to this restaurant in St. Helena because of the fabulous food, romantic atmosphere, and outstanding service. We highly recommend it to others.
